Research and Innovation

Educational theory and research is often criticised for its remoteness from the classroom and hence its lack of impact on school practice. Yet there are some clear messages, particularly from international school effectiveness research, about what makes great schools.

The challenge is to convert often ‘high order’ concepts abstracted from studies into consistent day to day practices. EdisonLearning’s approach has been to distil this research to identify the critical ingredients and create practical models that can be tailored to individual school circumstances.

Our services and products connect key research messages about school effectiveness within a holistic approach that is consistently supported over time. It delivers dividends over working on any single aspect of school improvement on its own and, with the support of our Achievement Advisers, is manageable to put in place.

EdisonLearning strives to be a learning organisation in every sense. As well as bringing academic research into the daily work of schools in a practical way, we work closely with our clients using grounded action research that creates great resources based on their direct experiences.

Take a look at reviews of some of the research that underpin our Partnership services or accounts and case studies that describe the successful application of these ideas in the UK, the USA and the Middle-East.

'Through partnership with ADEC, TEL improves the capacity and practical leadership skills of Private school Principals in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.'

'Through partnership with ADEC, TEL improves the capacity and practical leadership skills of Private school Principals in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.'

I learned today so many things.  I now know what I need to do next in the improvement process and how to do it.’

In October 2012 TEL began to deliver a Strategic Leadership Professional Development Programme for the Principals of 15 private schools in Al Ain and 15 schools in Abu Dhabi. The programme is focused on improving the strategic leadership of private schools, who are not only improving, but have also demonstrated the capacity to improve further.

Aligned to the ADEC professional standards, the Private School Inspection Framework and the Self Evaluation and School Improvement Plan requirements of ADEC,TEL’s leadership programme is enabling natural leaders to develop the skill and insight to become great ones, and fledging leaders learn to lead with flair and authenticity, through the practical preparation tasks and the follow-up activities which are an integral part of the training.

These tasks and activities are designed to enable the participants to try out a range of strategic leadership activities, methods and approaches in school whilst building their knowledge and skills to create a vision, motivate and inspire others, set clear agendas and support those who need to help to make the vision become a reality.

The Taaleem-EdisonLearning approach to leadership and management is driven by up-to-date international research and positioned, tested and implemented against the needs of schools across the UAE.

This is proven to be highly successful in establishing the fundamental requirements for outstanding school effectiveness and driving up standards of student achievement.

‘Superb sessions and I wish that I had access to more of this quality of training. Thank you TEL and ADEC.’
